F-League 2017

07/03/2017 – PUMA F-League Announcement

Football NSW wishes to announce that the PUMA F-League Competition will not be delivered by the governing body of the state for the 2017 season.

Football NSW conducted an application process in preparation for the 2017 competition and unfortunately, through this process, did not receive the required number of applications to deliver a viable competition consistent with the standards set in previous seasons

During the application process, Football NSW received feedback that the timing of the season is a challenge given the various football commitments taking place during this period and this may have been a determining factor in PUMA F-League Clubs electing not to apply for the 2017 season.

Football NSW will continue to engage with the Futsal community and fellow member federations in relation to the ongoing development of Futsal and specifically any demand for a viable National Futsal Competition in future seasons.

Football NSW greatly appreciates the assistance and support of the PUMA F-League Clubs and Officials since the Competition’s inception and is hopeful that the organisation can contribute to a National Futsal Competition in future seasons.

Review – FNSW PL1 Elimination Semi-Final Men

By virtue of finishing fourth on the season competition ladder, the Boomerangs men’s team qualified for the finals series of the Football NSW Premier League futsal competition and were drawn, in the first weekend of finals, in an elimination final against third-placed Enfield Rovers. The qualifying final saw minor premiers, Inner West Magic take on Dural Warriors.

The men’s matches topped off a big day of finals action held at the Dural futsal centre, with the qualifying finals being played on Court 1, and the elimination finals on Court 2. The match’s kick-off time was delayed by just over 30 minutes as three early games on the ‘elimination court’ had gone to overtime and some to penalties.

A strong team was selected from the Boomerangs men’s roster and given the shared head-to-head results of the regular season against the Rovers it was expected that a close match would ensue. Continue reading “Review – FNSW PL1 Elimination Semi-Final Men”

Preview – FNSW 16/17 PL1 Men’s Semi-Final

Saturday 18 February at 5:15pm, the Boomerangs men’s team will be up against the Enfield Rovers in the finals of the 16/17 Football NSW Premier League 1 competition. Considered the paramount competition in NSW for futsal, this match represents a terrific opportunity for the men’s team to make a mark upon the competition.

The competition ladder at the end of the season had the Boomerangs finish in fourth position on 17 points, ahead of Mountain Majik on goal difference alone. This weekend’s opponents, Enfield Rovers finished in third position on 22 points. The top two teams, Inner West Magic (34) and Dural Warriors (31) will battle out in the qualifying final for entry directly into the Grand Final.

Whilst the Boomerangs men’s team did not have as many wins this season as would have been desired, they consistently played very well against teams higher than them on the competition ladder. Indeed, having a season with only five losses from fourteen matches is a positive outcome. Against Minor Premiers Magic, the results included a draw (3-3) and a single goal defeat (1-2). Against Dural Warriors the lads managed a draw (3-3) in the first match of the season and a solid 4-1 win in the return match in Canberra. And against the Rovers, the honours were split at one win a piece, with a 1-6 loss away at Riverwood and a 4-3 victory at home.

The Boomers men know they have a tough challenge to progress in the final series, but have as good a track record as you could expect against these top teams throughout the season.

The match up against Enfield Rovers – led by veteran Lachlan Wright – is a good one and the speed and agility of the young Boomers is a significant advantage. The return of Michael Rinaudo to the roster this weekend will be a bonus, to add to the significant strength across the entire playing roster.

The men’s semi-final matches will be played concurrently at The Centre at Dural and will cap off what will be an entertaining first day of futsal finals for the PL1 competition for this season.  The lads are certainly up for the challenge and assuming a win, will be just as confident coming up against the loser of the Magic/Warriors qualifying final seven days later.

FNSW PL1 Round 14 Wrap

The final regular round of the 16/17 NSW Premier League futsal competition had the Boomers club travel to Wollongong to take on the South Coast Taipans club at the University of Wollongong.

The heatwave weather conditions forecast for the day forced Football NSW to implement their hot weather policy across all futsal games and all divisions, to cancel any unnecessary matches and to have all matches completed prior to the heat of the day kicking in. As such a rescheduled day of fixtures was advised on the Thursday prior, which had included the cancellation of games that had no impact on top four ladder positions. For the Boomerangs/Taipans fixtures, this included the 12 and 14 boys and the Open Women. Additionally, FNSW had cancelled all development and academy matches.

A hectic schedule of three-way discussions ensued in order to try and reinstate as many matches as possible, as Continue reading “FNSW PL1 Round 14 Wrap”

FNSW PL1 Round 13 Wrap

The penultimate round of the 16/17 NSW Premier League futsal competition had the Boomers club travel to Sydney to take on the Mountain Majik club at the Blacktown Leisure Centre.

Both the development/academy games and the competitive matches kicked off at 12.30pm and ran concurrently on separate courts. The Majik club has multiple junior teams allowing the 11 boys to play a match, the 11/12 girls to play two and the 10 boys, three matches against separate Majik opposition.

It was another day of disappointing results for the club – a constant theme across this PL1 season – with the only highlight in the important men’s match at the end of the day. All the other teams though continue to enjoy their futsal and put in a 100% effort into representing their club. Continue reading “FNSW PL1 Round 13 Wrap”

FNSW PL1 Round 9 Wrap

Round 9 of the FNSW Premier League 1 futsal competition for 2016/17 saw the Boomerangs travel to Sydney Boys High School in the centre of Sydney to take on UTS Northside. It was a hot and humid day in the NSW capital and the players needed to be well hydrated to maintain their energy throughout the day.

Four development/academy matches kicked off the day from 10am giving the youngest of Boomerangs; the 9, 10, 11 and 12 year-olds some valuable experience playing against much tougher competition than they would find in Canberra in local competitions and preparing them for the competitive age groups in years to come.

The competitive matches kicked off with the 12 boys and concluded with the Men’s match at 6.40pm.

The 14 boys match saw Continue reading “FNSW PL1 Round 9 Wrap”
