Round eleven of the 17/18 Premier League 2 season was away at the Hornsby PCYC taking on the Phoenix Futsal Club.

Development Squad Matches
There were two development squad matches played against Phoenix prior to the competitive matches – the 11/12 girls and the 10/11 boys. Both games were highly entertaining and of good quality – and it is apparent that these young Boomers are developing well as the season progresses. The girls dominated their match – especially in the second half, with the Phoenix boys putting up a strong effort against the travelling Boomerangs youngsters.

12 Boys: Boomerangs 2 – 1 Phoenix (ht 1 – 1)
The 12 boys were up against a Phoenix team that has struggled this season,  but still had some quality players hitting the court.  The boys were first to score and managed to hold that lead till around halfway through the first period. One all at the break and the match was there for the taking by both teams.  The second half was Continue reading “FNSW PL2 R11 Wrap”

Round ten of the 17/18 Premier League 2 season was an away round to the Central Coast to take on the Central Coast Futsal Club at the Peninsula Leisure Centre in Woy Woy.

To check out the photos of this round head to the Boomerangs photo site.

Development Squad Matches
There were no development squad matches played against Central Coast opposition this round.

12 Boys: Boomerangs 5 – 11 Central Coast (ht 2-5)
The 12 boys were involved in a goal-fest featuring 16 goals to open the day’s proceedings in Woy Woy. They matched it early with the home team, but let down their guard a little to concede easy goals to be down at the break 2-5. After scoring early in the second half the boys then conceded a couple close together giving the momentum back to the home team – which they capitalised by going on a scoring rampage in the final ten minutes. The Boomers boys will be Continue reading “FNSW PL2 R10 Wrap”

Round nine of the 17/18 Premier League 2 season had the club at home to Sydney Futsal Club. Earlier this season, away in Sydney, the club took home six wins from the nine matches, going down in the 12 and 16 boys and the open women. The aim for this round was to improve on that result.

To check out the photos of this round head to the Boomerangs photo site.

Development Squad Matches
The 10 boys played a scratch match against local side Gungahlin. It was a highly competitive and skilful game that saw both sides put together some terrific periods of play. The 11 boys took on a visiting Sydney Futsal club side in what was again a close, well matched and highly entertaining game. There was no match for the 11/12 girls.

12 Boys: Boomerangs 0 – 0 Sydney Futsal Club
Earlier this season the Boomers 12 boys were humbled by this strong Sydney futsal club team and were determined not to let them score so freely this round. The boys started strongly and were defending well as a unit in front of stand-in keeper Liam Cook.  The match was evenly poised when Continue reading “FNSW PL2 R9 Wrap”

To kick off the second half of the 17/18 season, the Boomerangs club travelled to south-west Sydney to take on Sydney City Eagles at the new Michael Clarke Recreation Centre.  Rounds against Sydney City are always tough – and they traditionally have strong male teams and competent female teams. Earlier this season in Round 1, the Boomerangs enjoyed a good day at the AIS winning five of the nine competitive matches and drawing another. To get similar results in the Eagles home territory was the challenge set.

Development Squad Matches
The 10/11 boys and the 11/12 girls both had games against Sydney City Eagles juniors and the matches were highly competitive and entertaining.  Several of these juniors were also given the opportunity to play in the 12 boys and 13 girls competitive matches that followed. The juniors are developing well and many of them will cope well in the competitive age groups next season.

Round seven of the 17/18 season saw the club travel to Mt Druitt for nine competitive matches against the Town Rangers. Round seven sees the halfway point of the season, and ladder positions after this round will be a reasonable indication of what will be required for a top four finish for each of the nine competitive Boomerangs teams. Mt Druitt has had a fairly poor season so far by their own standards and they were looking for some redemption before the first half of the season was over.

To check out the photos of this round head to the Boomerangs photo site.

Development Squad Matches
Mt Druitt could not offer matches for the Boomerangs development squads, so matches were organised for the 10 boys and 11 boys at Morris Iemma Sports Centre and at Valentine Park. The 11/12 girls did not have an away match this weekend, but several of them contributed to the great performance of the 13 girls.

12 Boys: Boomerangs 1 – 4 Mt Druitt (ht 0-2)
On paper, the 12 boys had the toughest assignment of the day. The Mt Druitt 12s have had a fairly decent season so far, having accrued four wins from the first six rounds resulting in them being placed third on the competition ladder. Continue reading “FNSW PL2 R7 Wrap”

Round six of the 17/18 FNSW Premier League 2 competition had the club at home against the Eastern Suburbs Hakoah Club from Sydney. After round five, Hakoah had a narrow lead in the Club Championship and look to be strong across all age groups. The challenge for the day then would be to see how the Boomerangs club measured up once again against one of the stronger clubs in this season’s PL2 competition.

To check out the photos of this round head to the Boomerangs photo site.

Development Squad Matches
Hakoah brought with them the full complement of development squads to play games against the ‘Baby Boomers’ in 10s and 11s boys and 11/12 girls. Three very close matches ensued again providing great opportunity for further development of the pre-competitive age groups of Boomerangs players.

12 Boys: Boomerangs 0 – 4 Hakoah (ht 0-0)
The 12 boys matched it for most of the game with this strong team from Hakoah; Continue reading “FNSW PL2 R6 Wrap”

Round five of the 17/18 FNSW Premier League 2 competition saw the Boomerangs club travel again up the highway to Sydney’s western suburbs, with a competitive round of matches against Raiders Futsal at Wetherill Park. Raiders have regularly been a top performing team in PL2 and are generally in the mix for promotion to PL1 at the end of every season.

To check out the photos of this round head to the Boomerangs photo site.

Development Squad Matches
Raiders could not offer games against development squads, so matches were organised against Mountain Majik at Blacktown. Majik have a comprehensive junior development program which sees them as one of the top clubs in NSW. Games were arranged for each of the development squads including an early match for 11 boys, a mid-morning match for the 11/12 girls and two afternoon matches for the 10 boys. The young ‘baby boomer’ squads continue to develop and it is matches such as these – against well coached and drilled Sydney teams – that will provide them with the tough competition to allow them to continue growing as players and as teams. We thank the Majik club (a PL1 club) for inviting us to play.

Round four of the 17/18 FNSW Premier League 2 competition saw the Boomerangs club at home up against Phoenix Futsal – a club which has aspirations for the Club Championship and promotion to PL1. Both clubs sat atop the Club Championship table before this round (with the Boomers only slightly ahead), so this round was a good test of where the club is at for this PL2 season.

To check out the photos of this round head to the Boomerangs photo site.

Development Squad Matches
The development squads each had games in the lead up to the nine competitive PL2 matches for this round. The 10 boys took on a highly competitive Gungahlin team and were pushed all the way in an evenly contested match. The 11 boys and 11/12 girls took on visiting Phoenix sides and again had some terrific competition against the travellers. These young ‘baby boomer’ squads are coming along well in their development and those who ‘graduate’ to the competitive age groups next year (and beyond) will be well and truly ready for the competition.

12 Boys: Boomerangs 5 – 1 Phoenix (ht 4-0)
The 12 boys had a very solid game against a skilful visiting Phoenix side. The boys gave the visitors little time to settle with a strong opening, including three goals in the first ten minutes of the match. From there Phoenix were always chasing the game, and they put up a good fight, but the Boomerangs youngest boys consolidated to make it 4 zip at the break. The second half saw Continue reading “FNSW PL2 R4 Wrap”

Round three of the 17/18 FNSW Premier League 2 competition saw the Boomerangs club at home at the AIS against Central Coast Futsal – a club which had, this season, been promoted to the PL2 competition from State League.

To check out the photos of this round head to the Boomerangs photo site.

Development Squad Matches
The Central Coast Club did not bring any development squads with them on the long haul to the ACT, so the youngest Boomerangs again played locally arranged matches – the 10 boys against the 11/12 girls and the 11 boys up against local junior side Gungahlin. Both matches were entertaining, fast and full of high skill level futsal. Importantly also, all four teams showed a good focus on defence and the games were tight with goals precious for all sides.

12 Boys: Boomerangs 4 – 3 Central Coast Futsal Club (ht 2-2)
The 12 boys had a tough match against a strong Central Coast side that has had mixed fortunes so far this season. These two evenly matched teams battled it out in the first half to end up all square as the halftime whistle blew (at 2-2).  The second half saw the intensity raise a notch and the home team managed to get the edge by scoring two terrific goals to the visitors single. A special note Continue reading “FNSW PL2 R3 Wrap”

The second round of the 17/18 FNSW Premier League 2 (PL2) competition saw the Boomerangs club travel to Redfern to take on the Sydney Futsal Club at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence.

To check out the photos of this round head to the Boomerangs photo site.

Development Squad Matches
The Sydney Futsal Club provided some strong opposition for the 11 development boys to play and it was a good hitout for the young Boomerangs boys. Whilst being generally outplayed and outmuscled, the lads are continuing to develop their play and learning to match it with tougher opposition. Earlier in the day, the 10 boys development squad took on Sydney City Eagles across town at the new Michael Clarke Recreation Centre in Western Sydney. There was no game for the 11/12 development girls squad.

12 Boys: Boomerangs 0 – 8 Sydney Futsal Club (ht 0-3)
The 12 boys had a tough time on their hands against yet another quality 12 boys team. They matched it with the Sydney Futsal 12 boys in the first half but failed to take advantage of the opportunities in the front third of the court. The second half saw the home team power home full of confidence and some terrific teamwork. The 12 boys are continuing to develop their skills and team play, but lack some of the size and physicality of the top teams in this competition.

13 Girls: Boomerangs 2 – 1 Sydney Futsal Club (ht 0-1)
The 13 girls match was a terrific Continue reading “FNSW PL2 R2 Wrap”
