Round 13 PREVIEW v Phoenix Futsal

Round 13 this weekend is without doubt the most important round of the 13/14 FNSW Premier League season for both clubs. With both sitting in the relegation zone, each club will be keen to take home more points from the round than the other — and this is especially true for the Boomerangs given they are five points adrift of Phoenix. With home court advantage though, the Boomerangs nine teams should be able to improve on the results of the Round 6 clashes held in Ryde in mid November.

Round six gave us four Boomerangs wins (with the remaining five for Phoenix) in the nine matches. The day started very well with three from three from the first games of the day, with Phoenix winning five in a row before the Boomerangs men clawed back with a convincing win in the final match of the day — the Open Men. Of the five losses on the day, the Boomerangs were only downed by a single goal in three of the games (14G, 16B and Youth Men), two goals in the Women and too many goals in the 16G.

On form – looking at the age group tables – it seems that the Phoenix are strongest in their 14 Boys (5th on ladder), 14 Girls (6th on ladder with 5 wins), 16 Boys (3rd), 16 Girls (4th) and the Youth Men (also in 4th). To leapfrog Phoenix on the Club Championship table, the Boomerangs need four wins from the other four divisions (12 Boys and Girls and Open Men and Women) as well as steal at least two wins from the other five matches. This would give Boomerangs six wins (18 points) and Phoenix three (nine points) and allow Boomerangs to leapfrog the Phoenix off the bottom of the Club Championship table.

The games kick off at the AIS, from 12 noon with the Open Men’s kicking off around 6.10pm.
