Preview F-League Week #2

Weekend #2 of the hummel F-League for 2014 plays out this weekend with matches across eastern Australia in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. And for the Boomerangs this means a single home game each for the men and women against the Sydney Scorpions Club at mPowerdome on Saturday.

This is the Boomerangs first home game for the 2014 season – and indeed its last for a while, with four games on the road (for the men, and three for the women) between 1 June and 20 June.

Sydney Scorpions were a real revelation as a new club to the F-League in 2013. Both their men’s and women’s teams were strong and performed extremely well all season. Indeed their men’s team finished third after the regular season, and narrowly lost their semi final to Dural Warriors. Their women’s team scraped into the finals finishing fourth during the regular season, but saved their best for the finals, easily accounting for Parramatta Blues in their semi and Boomerangs in the Grand Final.

The Scorpions men are currently 0-1 with a loss last weekend to East Coast Heat in a heated Sydney derby — they will be looking for two wins from two from their trip to the capital. The Boomerangs men though, after a scintillating start to the season last weekend, will be no easy beats. Last season’s match ups saw a 4-2 victory to the Scorpions in the early round in Melbourne, with the reverse match – also played in Melbourne – seeing a romp to the Boomerangs men, 8-2.

For the Scorpions women, this will be their first game for season 2014, and will be a real test against a reinvigorated Boomerangs women – including ex-Scorpion Doris Osman. Last season the Boomerangs and Scorpions women could not be separated with two draws from their two match ups during the regular season.

A huge crowd is expected at mPowerdome this Saturday afternoon. The Boomerangs games kick off at 2.00pm for the women and 3.45pm for the men. Earlier in the day, the Scorpions teams first need to overcome the new Capital FC team (both men and women).
