2014 F-League Teams

Boomerangs FS are proud to be able to announce both their men’s and women’s F-League squads for the upcoming 2014 season.

The squads represent some changes – particularly in the women’s team, but also a high degree of stability and consistency with the 2013 squads – especially in the men’s.

The women’s team features seven of last season’s regulars (Orgill, Watts, Roche, Aurousseau, Buckingham, Whittall and Kravis), including a couple of 2013 rookies who are ready to be consistent contributors at the highest level this season. The team also includes a few new local faces – including some that have performed exceptionally well in the local ACT Premier League, and in representing the ACT at the 2014 Nationals. The likes of Michaela Day, Nicole Somi and Clare Munro will handle the step up to F-League with aplomb. In goals we see the addition of Tatijana Curic, and one of Canberra’s brightest up and coming junior goalkeepers, Sophie Rolfe.

The biggest news though is the securing of Doris Osman to the 2014 roster. Doris is a special futsal talent and already has a string of awards and significant achievements in her still-short career. Doris played last season’s f-league with the Sydney Scorpions and was one of their stand out players – as she was when representing NSW at the Futsal Nationals in January 2014, where she was named the Women’s Grand Final MVP. Also joining Doris on the Boomerang’s roster from Canberra’s (very) northern suburbs (Sydney!) are Nadia Nisbet and Chloe Avgoustou.

The roster that has been put together is capable of matching, if not bettering, the second place finish of the 2013 season, and this year – going one step further in the finals to win the Grand Final.

The men’s team contains thirteen faces from the 2013 squad, including goal scoring machines Michael Reeves and Daniel Bennett. They will be ably supported by returning regulars Cal Smith and Jason O’Dwyer forming the core of the squad. Joining the team that finished fourth in the 2013 F-League are some big names from the ACT representative team at the Futsal nationals, including Robbie Cattanach (National Men’s tournament MVP 2014) and Trent Flannigan. In goal, the men will be ably supported by Futsalroos keeper Angelo Konstantinou, backed up by Keiran Stroh and Nick van Aalst. Last year’s youth players, Tom Zeitlhofer, Jake Wilsener and Jono Ciminelli also return and will be asked for a greater contributions this season. Added to the roster also this year is young Ben Basser-Silk, a promising young player who has shown tremendous form at training after a breakthrough NSW Premier league season.

All in all, the club is very pleased with the final rosters, and looks forward to this new-look 2014 season – one which is sure to throw up quite a few surprises.
