Preview F-League Final Weekend

The weekend of 16-18 August is shaping up to be the biggest in the recent history of Futsal in Australia.

The third season of the Men’s hummel F-League comes to a climax with the final round of games (Round 14) along with two Semi Finals and the Grand Final.

The inaugural Women’s F-League also concludes with the final four rounds of competition, before the Semi Finals and Grand Final.

Both Boomerangs men’s and women’s teams are in the mix to play finals futsal. Indeed the men’s team cannot miss out – with only one game left in the regular season rounds – and a fourth spot guaranteed (and an outside chance at third).

The Boomerangs women currently sit in second spot, and if their form continues as it has all season, they should finish in first or second place at the end of the regular round of matches.

The futsal action starts on Friday evening at the Dural Sport and Leisure Centre. The women kick off with a game against Vic Vipers at 9.45am Saturday, and continue through the day with matches against  Dural Warriors, Sydney Scorpions, and their final round match up against Parramatta Blues at 8.30pm. They then (likely) back up for a semi final at either 11.30am or 12.45 pm Sunday – and if successful, the Grand Final at 4.00pm.

The Boomerangs men play their final Round 14 match against Melbourne Heart at 2.00pm Saturday, with both semi finals scheduled for 6.30pm that same day. If they manage to defeat the first placed team (likely Vic Vipers – assuming they defeat St Albans on Saturday morning) they will make it to a Grand Final match up against either Dural Warriors or Sydney Scorpions at 2.00pm Sunday. The men’s team should be full of confidence going into the finals knowing they have already this season defeated the Vic Vipers and Sydney Scorpions, as well as having drawn the match against Dural Warriors in Melbourne in Series 4.

The Boomerangs women have only lost two games this season – to the Parramatta Blues and to Melbourne Heart (in Melbourne) and were involved in a tight 0-0 draw with the Sydney Scorpions in the final match of the AIS Series 1. They can be confident they can defeat any side in the competition.

We wish both teams the best of luck during this ‘finals’ weekend – and if any Boomerangs supporters wish to travel the Highway to Dural for Saturday and Sunday, bring along your best supporter’s voices.

For those who can’t make it to the games, every effort will be made to update the Facebook page with game progress scores during the weekend.
