Summer Futsal Season Ready To Take Off

Boomerangs FS are looking forward to one of the most exciting and busy summer futsal seasons in the club’s history.

Competitions begin in the next few weeks in the Football NSW Premier League 2 competition (for seniors and juniors), the Capital Football Senior Futsal Premier League (men and women) and for the first time, Boomerangs FS will be competing in the Capital Football Junior Futsal Premier League (13s and 15s Girls and Boys). In addition the young U10/U11 development squad will be competing at South Canberra Futsal, and the 16 Boys in the Men’s Division 2 competition.

A total of 21 teams competing across five competitions! It’s no surprise that all the back room volunteers and coaching staff have been very busy over the past couple of months.

For the past seven seasons, the Boomerangs have competed in the FNSW elite leagues (Super, Premier and State) with nine teams and have regularly fielded a number of teams in the Capital Football Men’s and Women’s senior Premier Leagues. However, providing additional opportunities to play high level futsal is what the club thinks is the right course of action, given the significant increase in demand from players, and the continuing increase in quality of players and coaches coming through the ranks.

Draws and venues will be confirmed in due course, as will competition locations.

FNSW Premier League 2

Over the past month or more, the club has been busily working to set up Boomerangs FS for a successful 2015/16 summer season.

The following information is for players and supporters for the upcoming season.

– The pre-season training program will commence during the first week of September.
– A pre-season trial match day has been organised against Inner West Magic on Saturday 19th September at Valentine Sports Park (Glenwood – Sydney). Details to follow.
– The in-season summer futsal program will have three contacts per week including; one training session per week, one ACT competition futsal match (where possible ACT Premier League) and one FNSW Premier League 2 match each Saturday (final season draw to be confirmed).

The club is also looking to enter as many teams as possible into the NSW State Titles over the long weekend of 3/4 October 2015. Expressions of interest are required so we can confirm which teams will be entered.

The players list for each team has now been finalised and can be found HERE.

The coaches for each of the teams for the season have also been finalised and are listed HERE.

Trainings will be held at Stromlo High – the training schedule is HERE. For the goalkeepers there will be goal keeper specific sessions on Sunday nights at Stromlo High School.

Online Registration
Registration is now open and players are required to register online through the My Football Club website as soon as possible. Registration includes participation in the NSW and ACT competitions for the 15/16 summer season (but does not include the NSW State Championships) and includes all required playing apparel, excluding footwear.

Finally, Boomerangs FS is a not-for-profit club and does everything possible to keep costs to a minimum whilst providing the players with the best possible futsal development and playing experience. Running the Boomerangs is a big undertaking relying heavily on volunteers drawn from its players and player’s families. If you are in position to help as a team manager, volunteer or match day official, please let us know as soon as possible.

Any further queries regarding the season can be addressed to Kristian or Jenney (for club-wide queries), or to the team Coach (and Manager when finalised).

FFA Futsal Championships 2015

Some ninety Canberra region players, eighteen coaching staff and a handful of volunteers are making their way up the Hume Highway to compete as Boomerangs FS in the FFA Futsal Nationals of 2015.

This year’s event (5-9 January) has seen a number of changes from the most recent years where firstly, the Nationals have mostly been held in Canberra (each year for most of the past 20 years), secondly, Boomerangs FS is representing the Capital with Capital Football supporting the AWD team, and thirdly, Football NSW is the host and organising Federation, having assumed the role from Capital Football.

With only a very short time frame to put the teams together (some five weeks), the Boomerangs coaches and volunteers have done a sensational job in harnessing their combined efforts to ensure nine teams of ten players each will be able to compete in this years’ FFA Nationals.

Canberra has a proud history in the FFA Nationals with regular finals appearances and a number of national championships across a range of age groups over many years. Most notably, the ACT (Capital Football sponsored teams), are the current holder of the Open Men’s and Open Women’s Championship trophies, and this will remain unchanged as the FFA has decided to no longer include Open Age categories at these championships (instead utilising the F-League as an avenue for elite senior futsal player), and having Youth (Men and Women), and U23’s (Men and Women) as the uppermost age groups.

Boomerangs FS wishes all its players, coaches and helpers (including the travelling parents) the best for the week, and are confident of a number of finals appearances from across the age groups being contested.

Boomerangs FS are sending to the Championships:

12 Boys (2 x teams)
12 Girls
14 Boys
15 Boys
16 Girls
Youth Men (2 x teams)
Youth Women

Follow the action via the Boomerangs Facebook page and Twitter account as well as the @futsalchamps Twitter account and of course on Sporting Pulse.

ACT Premier League Finals

The Capital Football ACT Senior Futsal Premier League is done and dusted with the Grand Finals played Friday 12 December.

A terrific atmosphere and a great crowd turned up to witness a couple of fantastic games to decide the men’s and women’s Grand Final winners.

The Open Men Minor Premiers, Boomerangs FS were involved in a tight, close and intense tussle with the Untouchables FC men (who finished second with the best defensive record in the league), who took out the match 3-2. A great effort from the Untouchables team, that played a tough grinding defensive game. The Boomerangs men though, were not disgraced having already taken out the Minor Premiership, were the top offensive team in the competition and had three of the top scorers in their midst. Daniel Bennett took out the Golden Boot for the season with 20 goals during the regular season (with Cal Smith on 16 and Jason O’Dwyer on 15).

The Women’s final was played beforehand and saw Monaro Panthers edge out the Untouchables women. Monaro had been in unstoppable form throughout the season, but the Untouchables held their own in an exciting end-to-end match. Boomerangs El Diva women were knocked out in the semi-final on Wednesday night.

The matches were live-streamed and full replays can be found HERE.

ACT Premier League Update

MEN’S FPL: BOOMERANGS FS BLUE SECURE TOP SPOT

MEN’S FUTSAL PREMIER LEAGUE: ROUND 13

Boomerangs FS Blue made certain that they would finish top of the Men’s Futsal Premier League heading into the final series by wrapping up top spot with one round to play as they recorded a 10-1 win over Monaro Panthers Grey. Jason O’Dwyer led the way with five goals whilst Jonathan Ciminelli and Callum Smith both hit a double. Michael Reeve added the other with an own goal offering Monaro Panthers Grey some small consolation.

Untouchables FC will be second after the cemented their place with a convincing 8-0 win over Weston-Molonglo Timberwolves. Brett Forward, who leads the scorers for the Untouchables, scored a hat-trick to move onto twelve for the season. Cameron Gordon was on target twice and there were further goals from Jason Farrell, Patryk Bylinski and Jeremy Hegarty as Untouchables cruised to a victory.

At the foot of table Boomerangs FS White gave themselves a chance of slipping away from the wooden spoon position in the final round as they saw off Monaro Panthers Green 6-3 in an excellent match. Zach Knight bagged a brace for Monaro Panthers Green with Thomas James netting his ninth of the season but it wasn’t enough to see off Boomerangs who deserved the win. David Dexter (2), Travis Dries, Ross Edwards, Chris Lee and Misko Naumoski were the scorers in the teams’ second success of the campaign.

2015 FFA Futsal Nationals

* Note – Regular Updates regarding the 2015 FFA Futsal Nationals will be posted HERE.

Boomerangs FS is pleased to be able to advise that the club has been approached to participate in the FFA Futsal National Championships being held in Sydney (in January), as an ‘invitational club’.

Participation is subject to Capital Football approval; however discussions with them so far have been very positive. The club has indicated to Football NSW and to Capital Football that it has the capacity to send teams in all age groups offered at the Championships.

In line with this commitment, we are seeking expressions of interest from players to participate at the Futsal Nationals (January 5-9, 2015). Age groups being played at the Nationals are as follows:

– Boys U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, Youth (U19) and U23 Men

– Girl’s U12,U14, U16, Youth Women (U19) and U23 Women

The competition will be spread across four different venues, being Valentine Sports Park (23s and AWD), Dural Sport & Leisure Centre (U16 and Youth), Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium (U12-U15) and Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre (Finals)

The time frame to make arrangements (such as planning training sessions, ordering strips etc) and assemble teams is very short. As such, we are seeking expressions of interest by no later than 12pm, Thursday November 27. (Please send confirmation emails to jenney@boomerangsfs.com and cc to info@boomerangsfs.com.au).

The cost to participate in the Futsal Nationals as a Boomerangs player will be approximately $550 per player – this is pending final confirmation of entry fees and other costs. The participation fee will include the following:

– Training sessions

– Home and away playing strip

– Polo shirt, walkout shorts, backpack

– Qualified coaches

– Team entry fees

– Travelling physiotherapist

Please note that these costs do NOT include transport, food and accommodation for the championships period to provide maximum flexibility for families. We are currently looking at options for inexpensive accommodation, however families will be free to choose the travel and accommodation option that best suits their circumstances.

Once expressions of interest have been collated an email will be sent to all players informing them of potential trials/training times and venue for their age group.

A reminder that expressions of interest are required  by 12pm Thursday 27 November.

ACT Premier League Update

The following from Capital Football

MEN’S FUTSAL PREMIER LEAGUE: ROUND 10

Callum Smith was the star of the show as Men’s Futsal Premier League leaders Boomerangs FS Blue stayed top of the pile with a crushing 10-4 victory over Monaro Panthers Green in Round 10. Smith netted six times for the Boomerangs team, who were without a number of key players, as they kept their narrow one-point advantage in first place.

Smith now has eleven goals for the FPL year whilst Jason O’Dwyer moved onto eight goals for the season with a double for Boomerangs Blue. Michael Reeve and Kristian Collins also found a way past Andrew McGurgan in the Panthers goal. The Panthers battled to the end of the match and were rewarded with goals from Rui Ferreira (2), Zach Knight and Anthony Pulciani.

Canberra City Prawns are still breathing down the necks of Boomerangs FS Blues as the champions registered a fifth win of the season with an 8-3 success over Boomerangs FS White. Goran Josifovski was in fine fettle, scoring four times for the Prawns, and he was joined on the score-sheet by Trent Flanigan, Dejan Santrac and Stephen Domenici, the latter moving onto eleven goals for the season. Chris Lee scored twice for Boomerangs White who were helped on their way by a Prawns own goal.

Meanwhile a four-goal haul from Regan Walsh has led Monaro Panthers Grey to only their second win of the season as they saw off Weston-Molonglo Timberwolves 7-3. Walsh was joined amongst the goals by a double from the silky Josh Calabria and another goal from the reliable Michael Sydney. Tony Aleksovski scored his ninth of the season in reply for the Timberwolves with Thomas Zeitlhofer and Vinnie Brasil also netting but Monaro was comfortable winners.

RESULTS

Weston-Molonglo Timberwolves 3 (Tony Aleksovski, Vinnie Brasil, Thomas Zeitlhofer) Monaro Panthers Grey 7 (Regan Walsh (4), Josh Calabria (2), Michael Sydney)
