Round 9 of the 2013/2014 Football NSW Futsal Premier League saw the Boomerangs take on the Mascot Vipers at mpowerdome, ending the mid-season run of (3) away games.
A much improved showing from each and every team this week – those who won, and those who didn’t. The players and teams all showed more effort, determination and heart and this resulted in three wins and a draw across the nine games – a reasonable return against a club sitting in fourth place on the Club Championship table going into the weekend.
12 Boys
Boomerangs 5 – 1 Vipers
The 12 boys played with intent this week and really took it to the Mascot boys from the kick off. A great result that sees their finals hope intact. The boys remain in fifth place, only one win out of the top four.
12 Girls
Boomerangs 1 – 4 Vipers
A much stronger effort from the girls this week. They look on track to chalk up a few more wins in the back half of this season.
14 Boys
Boomerangs 6 – 6 Vipers
An adrenaline filled game for the 14 boys… after the Vipers led 5-3 at half time, the Boomers 14 boys put up a much stronger show in the second half which saw them concede only one goal, whilst scoring three of their own. A terrific result against the competition leaders.
14 Girls
Boomerangs 0 – 5 Vipers
The 14 girls this week went down fighting in their match against the Vipers. Two nil down at half time and they were still very much in the game, but try as they may they couldn’t find the back of the net. The Vipers scored a few late goals to take it to five for the match.
16 Boys
Boomerangs 4 – 3 Vipers
The 16 boys won an exciting and tense arm wrestle over their Mascot counterparts in a sensational effort by the boys under intense pressure. After being down 3-2 at the half-time break, the boys pulled out a top shelf performance in the second half against a team that sits in the top four.
16 Girls
Boomerangs 1 – 6 Vipers
The 16 girls fought hard but could not match it with a strong Mascot girls team that sits in second place on the table after nine rounds. One nil at half time ended up a 6-1 loss. In this age group the top four teams all won their games over the bottom four and have put a real gap in the table.
Youth Men
Boomerangs 5 – 6 Vipers
After going into the half time break 5-1 down, the Youth men – on the back of playing fifth man for almost the entire second stanza – came back to score four second half goals to one, to fall just one goal short of what would have been a remarkable come back. This division remains the closest of all with only nine points separating the top placed team from the bottom with five rounds still to play.
Open Women
Boomerangs 0 – 2 Vipers
There was very little in this contest, and after a scoreless first half, the Vipers scored two unanswered in the second half to take out the match 2-0. The Boomerangs Women’s sixth loss in the last seven games have seen the them drop to the base of the competition ladder.
Open Men
Boomerangs 8 – 0 Vipers
The men wrapped up the day with a convincing win over the Viper’s, 8-0. This was a game that saw the Boomerangs dominate the match – as much through their intense defensive effort as through their potent goal scoring ability. Michael Reeve put on a master class scoring four. The Boomerangs lead the goal scoring across all clubs with 46 goals in nine games this season and head the goal scorers list with young gun Daniel Bennett (2 this week) on 12 goals. Reeve is on 10 and Ryan Keir on eight.
Boomerangs remain in second place on the men’s table after Dural also completed a convincing win (6-2) over rivals Inner West Magic.
