F-League Round 10 Review

The final rounds of the 2015 national F-League competition saw the Boomerangs men and women take on Capital FC and Vic Vipers at home.

WOMEN

Capital FC

The Women’s first match of the weekend on Friday night was the second local derby of the year against Capital FC.

The Capital FC team had the best of the first stanza and took a 4-1 lead into the half-time break. The second half was a much more even affair at one goal a piece, meaning the local derby clashes for season 2015 were evenly split at one victory each.

Boomerangs (De Marco, Roche) 2 – 5 Capital FC

Vic Vipers

The Women’s team had their second match for the weekend early Saturday morning against the travelling Vic Vipers.

A solitary goal to each team saw an evenly matched first half, with many missed opportunities for both sides. Fortunately the second half saw it click into place for the Boomers women, who put on a further four goals to the Vipers single.

Boomerangs (Gurney (2), Aurousseau, Corbett, Roche) 5 – 2 Vic Vipers

MEN

Capital FC

The men’s team started their three match weekend with a Friday night match against Capital FC.

Like the women, the men had won the local derby played earlier in the season – and like the women, the Boomerangs men allowed the Capital FC team to even up the ledger for season 2015 in the second leg.

A relatively even first half saw the cross-town Capital FC up by a solitary goal, 3-2.  The Boomerangs boys were hoping to power into the game in the second half, however the Capital lads did not allow the Boomers back into the match – also taking the honours 3-2 in the second stanza.

Boomerangs (Wilsener, Smith Barlow, OG) 4 – 6 Capital FC

Vic Vipers

The men’s second game for the weekend was against the strong Vic Vipers men.

As has been the trend this season (for both the men and the women), the Boomers allowed the Vipers to score first – although they did hold out for a goal-less first seven minutes. When the goals came though, they came in a flurry and the Vipers netted four times before the break.

A further three goals in the second half to a solitary Boomerangs reply, saw the Vipers take the penultimate step towards their minor premiership ambition on this Canberra trip.

Even though this was a convincing loss to the Boomers lads, they probably played their best futsal for quite a number of weeks – making the quality Vipers team work for every possession in the match. And it was often the excellent ‘keeping of their Australian keeper, that kept the Boomers from scoring more.

Boomerangs (O’Dwyer) 1 – 7 Vipers

Across the F-League

In other matches across yet another huge weekend of F-League futsal…

Men’s

The few games played around the country (Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane) did little to upset the order of the F-League ladder and the end of the regular season sees Vipers, Magic, Warriors and Heat comfortably fill the top four spots and give them claim to the final’s series next weekend. Vipers will take on the Heat and Magic the Warriors, with the winners playing off in the Grand Final on Sunday.

Women’s

The women’s division also sees the three Sydney teams (Heat, Magic, Warriors) on top of the ladder with South Brisbane claiming the last finals spot. Next weekend will see the undefeated Heat take on South Brisbane and as with the men, the Warriors take on cross-town rivals Magic.
