Recap

The first match of the 2016 season saw a home game against last year’s Grand Final runner’s up Dural Warriors.

In 2015, Dural were victorious over the Boomers in both meetings, taking out their home match in a close, tight tussle 3-1 and later in the season, defeating the Boomerangs in a highly entertaining, goal fest, 8-4 at mPowerdome.

However, the first match of the 2016 season for both clubs, will be one that the Boomerangs men will want to forget rather quickly. The quality of Dural shone through from the kick off and after a quiet first few minutes of the match, they soon got their goal scoring boots on and racked up six by half-time.

The second half saw the Boomerangs young squad try hard to work their way back into the match – and there were moments of terrific play throughout. A goal to the home side raised the spirits, but it wasn’t long before the visitors were back into top gear, slotting home another six in the second period.

An unwanted legacy from the match was the red card for debutant, Nathan Megic, who showed real potential during his time on the court. And the red card bringing about a rare highlight for the Boomers lads, with them not conceding during the compulsory two minutes with a man down after the expulsion.

There were many takeaways from the match, and a lot to build on before the lads travel away to Sydney next weekend to take on East Coast Heat.
