Season Preview- FNSW PL1

For the fifth time in the club’s 10-year association with Football NSW futsal leagues, Boomerangs FS will be competing in the top league for the 2019 season.

In the history of the FNSW futsal competitions, it is doubtful that any other club has bounced so frequently between league levels on such a regular basis.

From entering the Super League in 2009-10 (the then second tier), the Boomerangs took little time to acclimatise to the new level of competition gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2011-12. This was followed by the longest stretch in the top league, at three consecutive seasons.

2014-15 saw the club compete in the then second tier, the State League for a single season; and with the addition of an extra league the following year, saw promotion into the newly established Premier League 2 competition for 2015-16. Winning the Club Championship in the inaugural year of the PL2 competition was satisfying and met with promotion back into PL1 once again.

FNSW PL2 18/19 Season Review

The FNSW Premier League 2 season of 2018-19 was a highly successful one
for the Boomerangs FS club; enjoyable, and with some fantastic futsal being played along the way in all age groups, from the youngest boys and girls through to open men and women.

The season brought a level of consistency across the competitive age groups not seen for several seasons, resulting in the club securing enough competition points to top the Club Championship table.

That outcome was also helped by the Club Championship structure changing this season to only include the seven age groupings from 14 boys and older.

DEVELOPMENT SQUADS
9 Boys / 10 Boys / 11 Boys / 11/12 Girls
The youngest of the Boomerangs teams once again showed growth and development in their skills – both individually and as teams, and they learnt more about what it takes to play in a high-level futsal competition.

FNSW PL2 18/19 Presentation Night

February 9, 2018, saw the ever-growing Boomerangs tribe gather at the Yowani Country Club to celebrate the season just passed and to recognise the raft of tremendous performances across the FNSW PL2 competition in all age groups.

Some 265 players, parents, families, sponsors and supporters joined in the celebrations on the night. It was a night of fun, of laughter and of course, a celebration of the excellent season just completed. And, of course, there were some awards to hand out.

A number of raffles held, with some significant prizes involved – all generously donated by Boomerangs sponsors. There were shirt auctions that raised some valuable funds for the club and there were special guests including former Boomerangs players and Australian Futsalroo representatives, Angelo Konstantinou and Daniel Fulton. The Chair and CEO of Capital Football were also in attendance.

FNSW PL2 Finals Review

The finals weekend for the FNSW PL2 competition has come and gone – all too quickly. And for the Boomerangs club, the weekend was not as successful as was hoped, with only two Grand Finals appearances from the six semi-finalists and no Championship trophies brought back to the Territory.

After a very solid season in the FNSW PL2 competition, six of the nine competitive teams finished in the top four of their respective divisions and had earned their places in the finals series.

Of the six teams to make finals, the 13 girls finished fourth, the
15 girls, 16 boys and 18 women all finished in second place and the 19 men and open age women finished as Premiers as the best team in their age group across the season. Five top-two finishes out of nine competitive age groups was a tremendous return for the season’s effort.

FNSW PL2 Finals Preview

The pointy end of the season has arrived – and for many, too quickly!

The club has had a strong season in the FNSW PL2 competition and of the nine competitive age groups have six teams competing in the finals series on the weekend of 19/20 January.

Of the six teams to make finals this season, one team finished fourth (13 girls), three second place finishes (15 girls, 16 boys and 18 women) and two Premierships – for the 19 men and open age women.

In a refreshed finals series this season, the ‘double chance’ has been removed for the those teams finishing in the top two and all teams will now face an all elimination finals series. On Saturday 19 January, at Dural, fourth placed teams will take on competition table toppers and second take on third place getters.

13 Girls

The 13 girls, having finished fourth this season, will take on premiers, SD Raiders. Whilst the Boomers 13 girls did not record a win against this team during the season, they pushed the premiers all the way with a 3-4 loss away at Fairfield and a 3-3 draw at home in Round 12. SD Raiders finished the season with a single loss and one draw to go with their 12 wins.

FNSW 18/19 PL2 R14 Wrap

Round 14 of the 18/19 Football NSW Premier League 2 competition – the final regular round for the season – was critical for the club in its endeavours to claim the Club Championship. Five of the six teams in finals contention had already locked in their top four slots, with the 13s looking to claim fourth spot with a win and the Youth Men and 15 girls looking to lock in, or grab, the Premiership.

Earlier this season (Round 7) the club fared well against the cellar-dwelling West City Crusaders, losing only one match (12 boys) and drawing two others (youth and men) of the nine competitive age matches.

To check out the photos of Saturday’s matches head to the Boomerangs photo site.
For full match and highlight videos, head to the BoomersTV YouTube channel.

Development Squad Matches
The West City Crusaders did not field development age teams this season, and as there was a focus on making finals and on club championship points this final round, games against other teams were difficult to arrange. Many of the parents of the development squad teams also appreciated having the weekend off prior to Christmas to finalise their festive season preparations.

12 BOYS:
Boomerangs 2 – 5 West City Crusaders (ht 2 – 3)
The 12 boys wanted desperately to win this match to finish the season on a positive and thought they were in with a decent shot given that they lost the Round 7 match by a single goal only.
