Higher honours for Darwich

Boomerangs FS youth and men’s player, Elie Darwich has been selected for the Lebanon national U20s squad in preparation for the  Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U20 Futsal Championships in early 2019.

Elie is heading off to Lebanon on Monday 9 July and whilst there will play in the Alfa National Futsal League with the U20s squad as preparation for the AFC Championships.

The AFC U20 Futsal Championships was first contested in 2017 with Lebanon coming a respectable second in their pool (W3/D1/L0) and losing their quarter-final to eventual winners, Iran.

We wish Elie all the best with the opportunities his national representative duties in Lebanon provide – but his presence will be missed around the club as a player, coach, role model and club member during the upcoming FNSW PL2 season. (We do look forward to benefitting from his skills development though!) Continue reading “Higher honours for Darwich”

Boomers Represent in Asia

Three Boomerangs FS men’s players have been selected in the East Coast Heat team representing Australia at the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Club Championships being held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from 15-21 July 2018.

Nick van Aalst, Nick Rathjen and Daniel Fulton have been training with the Heat for a while now in preparation for this terrific representative experience. Daniel has previously played for the Heat in the F-League and has experience in this competition last year, as well as representative duties with the Australian Futsalroos team. This will be the first overseas representative competition for Nick van Aalst and Nick Rathjen.

East Coast Heat were invited to this tournament as they were Champions (Grand Final winners) of the most recently held men’s F-League competition in 2016. It is important to have a national competition (in both men and women) to ensure invitations such as this continue to present themselves for Australian players.

The Vic Vipers – F-League men’s Premiers in 2016 – are also playing in Asia; in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Club Championship from 1-12 August – also in Yogyakarta. Continue reading “Boomers Represent in Asia”

Boomers girls named in Junior Matildas Squad

Three former Boomerangs players have been selected in the Junior Matildas train-on camp in Canberra this week.

This is a significant achievement for the four ACT girls, Cec Matic, Laura Hughes, Sarah Morgan and ‘keeper, Liv Riddel. Cec and Liv have been familiar faces with the Boomerangs girls program over the years, and Laura donned the Boomerangs strip for just a few games.

We wish all the girls the best in making the final squad for the AFC 2017 U-16 Women’s Championships starting on 11 September 2017 against Japan in Chonburi, Thailand.

The top three teams in the tournament will qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay, something which all players in the squad will be aspiring to.

Two Boomerangs players selected for national squad

Australia’s Under 17 Women’s National Team Head Coach Ante Juric has named a 23-player squad that will compete in the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers in Vietnam from August 25 to 3 September 2016.

Australia is in Group D along with Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Palestine and Iraq and opens its campaign against Palestine on 25 August.

All matches will be played at the Vietnam Youth Training Centre in Hanoi.

The AFC U16 Championship Qualifiers signify the start of the elite women’s football pathway and the first steps for young female football players who aspire to play for the Westfield Matildas.

The AFC U16 Championship Qualifiers serve as the qualifiers for AFC U16 Women’s Championship, which will be played in China in September 2017.
