GIRLS JPL13/15 GRAND FINAL – BOOMERANGS TOO CLASSY FOR BLUE DEVILS

GIRLS U13/15
GRAND FINAL

Boomerangs FS U15 9 (Madeleine Perceval 6’, 26’, Cecilija Matic 11’, 28’, Ashlyn Garrity 27’, Emma Ilijoski 28’, 34’, Stella De Marco 37’, Isabella Tammaro 39’) Belconnen United 0

Boomerangs FS were crowned Girls U13/15 Futsal Premier League Champions with a comfortable 9-0 win over Belconnen United in the Grand Final. Belconnen set their stall out early conceding possession to the Boomerangs side and seemingly content to defend in numbers and try to frustrate their opponents. And, to a degree, it worked until the sixth minute when some patient Boomerangs build-up was rewarded with a simple finish from Madeleine Perceval. The danger in allowing a side as talented as the Boomerangs the monopoly of the ball is that they will finally create an opening and they did again on eleven minutes as Stella De Marco skipped past a challenge and pulled the ball back for Cecilija Matic to sweep into the roof of the net. The Blue Devils were restricted to just one effort in the opening half as Leila Craemer-Banks broke away but shot wide when well placed. Otherwise it was Boomerangs very much in ascendancy at the interval.

It was a gallant defensive effort by the Blue Devils, who had suffered a heavy defeat to this opposition in the round-robin series, and they continued to provide a roadblock to the Boomerangs ambitions of adding to the scoreboard until Perceval rapped in her second from an acute angle. That opened the floodgates and three goals arrived in quick succession as Captain Ashlyn Garrity, Matic and Emma Ilijoski all netted in the space of a minute. Boomerangs withdrew their ‘keeper to create an extra player and pile on the pressure and Ilijoski scored her second of the match with five minutes to play. Stella De Marco added the eighth goal with time running out and Isabella Tammaro rounded out the tally in the final minute. In the end it was Boomerangs extra class that told despite Belconnen’s best efforts.

JPL13 GRAND FINAL – RUTHLESS BOOMERANGS CLAIM CROWN

BOYS U13
GRAND FINAL

Boomerangs FS U13 6 (Luca Gagliardi 2’, 38’, Brandon Davids 7’, 34’, Zachary Barbatano 29’, Oliver McCarthy 40’) Monaro Panthers 1 (Timothy Noack 40’)

Boomerangs FS claimed the Boy’s under-13 Junior Futsal Premier League title with a convincing performance as they outplayed a game Monaro Panthers to win the title showdown 6-1. Heading into the match as clear favourites it didn’t take the Boomerangs long to assert their authority as, from a free-kick awarded for the Panthers ‘keeper delaying the play, Luca Gagliardi crashed home. Boomerangs were stringing together some intricate passing combinations and another splendid move barely five minutes later yielded the second as Brandon Davids slid the ball into the empty net at the far post and that cushion allowed Boomerangs to dictate the pace. They dominated possession for the majority of the opening half with the Panthers restricted to sporadic breakaways, the end of one of which Daniel Skazlic drew a decent save from Boomerangs custodian Callum Foster. But Boomerangs were well worthy of their half-time advantage.

The Panthers needed to strike next if they were to force their way back into the match and they certainly tightened up defensively but, unfortunately, were struggling to find a way past the solid Boomerangs defence. And it was the Boomerangs who were to increase their lead with eleven minutes remaining. Again it was the movement and precision of passing that undid the Panthers with Zachary Barbatano, a constant threat, rewarded with a fine goal. That seemed to knock a bit of the stuffing out of the Panthers and Davids was able to nab a second, sweeping the ball high into the roof of the net from close range, to effectively seal the result in the 34th minute. Gagliardi completed his brace two minutes from time and there was time for the half dozen as Oliver McCarthy crunched in the sixth. The Panthers gained a modicum of reward when Timothy Noack scored with seconds to spare but it was Boomerangs match.

MEN’S FPL – STATUS QUO MAINTAINED AT HEAD OF LADDER

MEN’S FUTSAL PREMIER LEAGUE
ROUND 12

It’s as you were at the top of the Men’s Futsal Premier League as the top two sides, Canberra Olympic Superprawns and Boomerangs FS both won to remain in the pole positions at the top of the ladder. Goals from Robbie Cattanach, who’s double took him level at the top of the Golden Boot standings, and Ryan Keir, who also nabbed a brace, gave the Superprawns a 6-4 success over Boomerangs FS Youth.

Goran Josifovski and Pat Ross-Magee both added to the Superprawns tally but the youthful Boomerangs made the favourites work hard and pushed them all the way with goals from Michael Rinaudo (2), Chris Smith and Nicholas Rathjen keeping them in touch. Ultimately the leaders claimed the points and are another step closer to the number one placing come finals time.

In the other match played last week goals from Callum Smith and Jake Wilsener gave Boomerangs FS a 2-0 win over Untouchables FC to keep the Boomerangs above their opponents in the latest rankings. Smith and Wilsener now both have five goals for the season and their team look set to finish second on the table.

WOMEN’S FPL – UNTOUCHABLES FC WHITE REMAIN IN FINALS HUNT

WOMEN’S FUTSAL PREMIER LEAGUE
ROUND 12

There’s still spots up for grabs in the make-sup of the semi-finals for the Women’s Futsal Premier League as the competition edges towards its conclusion as we enter Round 13 this weekend. Six teams are still in contention for the four places with only the top two, and barring a mathematical collapse, the third place term sure of a spot.

Leaders Gungahlin United have all but wrapped up top spot following a 6-0 hammering of Boomerangs FS Youth in the latest action. Golden Boot leader Brittany Palombi smashed a hat-trick to move onto thirty-one goals for the season with regular scorers Grace Field and Ashleigh Palombi also netting. Michelle Aurousseau grabbed her fifth of the campaign as the Gunners ran out easy victors.

Untouchables FC Red made sure that Gungahlin would have to wait to be crowned number one as they defeated Belconnen United 3-1 to leave them six points behind with two matches to play. Jennifer Bisset scored twice for the Untouchables FC Red team with Sophie Kochinos’ fourteenth of the season securing the result. Ariana Ilheo pulled one back for Belconnen United, but they were unable to force their way into the contest and fell to a seventh loss of the season.

Untouchables FC White are back in the hunt for fourth spot as they downed Canberra FC 3-1 denying their opponents the chance to open up what would have been an unassailable gap. Erika Pennyfield, Freyja Jacobsen and Erica Weatherly scored the all-important goals for the Untouchables with Najwa Allen, a regular contributor to the goals column, striking for Canberra FC.

Boomerangs FS cemented their semi-final place with an 8-3 win over Tuggeranong United for whom Samantha Wood (2) and Kristy Helmers scored. A hat-trick from young starlet Madeleine Perceval was equalled by a treble from Daniella Cecere as the Boomerangs satiated their hunger for goals against their lowly opponents. Jordan Buchannan also netted a brace in the victory.

Summer Futsal Season Ready To Take Off

Boomerangs FS are looking forward to one of the most exciting and busy summer futsal seasons in the club’s history.

Competitions begin in the next few weeks in the Football NSW Premier League 2 competition (for seniors and juniors), the Capital Football Senior Futsal Premier League (men and women) and for the first time, Boomerangs FS will be competing in the Capital Football Junior Futsal Premier League (13s and 15s Girls and Boys). In addition the young U10/U11 development squad will be competing at South Canberra Futsal, and the 16 Boys in the Men’s Division 2 competition.

A total of 21 teams competing across five competitions! It’s no surprise that all the back room volunteers and coaching staff have been very busy over the past couple of months.

For the past seven seasons, the Boomerangs have competed in the FNSW elite leagues (Super, Premier and State) with nine teams and have regularly fielded a number of teams in the Capital Football Men’s and Women’s senior Premier Leagues. However, providing additional opportunities to play high level futsal is what the club thinks is the right course of action, given the significant increase in demand from players, and the continuing increase in quality of players and coaches coming through the ranks.

Draws and venues will be confirmed in due course, as will competition locations.

ACT Premier League Finals

The Capital Football ACT Senior Futsal Premier League is done and dusted with the Grand Finals played Friday 12 December.

A terrific atmosphere and a great crowd turned up to witness a couple of fantastic games to decide the men’s and women’s Grand Final winners.

The Open Men Minor Premiers, Boomerangs FS were involved in a tight, close and intense tussle with the Untouchables FC men (who finished second with the best defensive record in the league), who took out the match 3-2. A great effort from the Untouchables team, that played a tough grinding defensive game. The Boomerangs men though, were not disgraced having already taken out the Minor Premiership, were the top offensive team in the competition and had three of the top scorers in their midst. Daniel Bennett took out the Golden Boot for the season with 20 goals during the regular season (with Cal Smith on 16 and Jason O’Dwyer on 15).

The Women’s final was played beforehand and saw Monaro Panthers edge out the Untouchables women. Monaro had been in unstoppable form throughout the season, but the Untouchables held their own in an exciting end-to-end match. Boomerangs El Diva women were knocked out in the semi-final on Wednesday night.

The matches were live-streamed and full replays can be found HERE.

The following from Capital Football

MEN’S FPL: BOOMERANGS FS BLUE SECURE TOP SPOT

MEN’S FUTSAL PREMIER LEAGUE: ROUND 13

Boomerangs FS Blue made certain that they would finish top of the Men’s Futsal Premier League heading into the final series by wrapping up top spot with one round to play as they recorded a 10-1 win over Monaro Panthers Grey. Jason O’Dwyer led the way with five goals whilst Jonathan Ciminelli and Callum Smith both hit a double. Michael Reeve added the other with an own goal offering Monaro Panthers Grey some small consolation.

Untouchables FC will be second after the cemented their place with a convincing 8-0 win over Weston-Molonglo Timberwolves. Brett Forward, who leads the scorers for the Untouchables, scored a hat-trick to move onto twelve for the season. Cameron Gordon was on target twice and there were further goals from Jason Farrell, Patryk Bylinski and Jeremy Hegarty as Untouchables cruised to a victory.

At the foot of table Boomerangs FS White gave themselves a chance of slipping away from the wooden spoon position in the final round as they saw off Monaro Panthers Green 6-3 in an excellent match. Zach Knight bagged a brace for Monaro Panthers Green with Thomas James netting his ninth of the season but it wasn’t enough to see off Boomerangs who deserved the win. David Dexter (2), Travis Dries, Ross Edwards, Chris Lee and Misko Naumoski were the scorers in the teams’ second success of the campaign.

ACT Premier League Update

The following from Capital Football

MEN’S FUTSAL PREMIER LEAGUE: ROUND 10

Callum Smith was the star of the show as Men’s Futsal Premier League leaders Boomerangs FS Blue stayed top of the pile with a crushing 10-4 victory over Monaro Panthers Green in Round 10. Smith netted six times for the Boomerangs team, who were without a number of key players, as they kept their narrow one-point advantage in first place.

Smith now has eleven goals for the FPL year whilst Jason O’Dwyer moved onto eight goals for the season with a double for Boomerangs Blue. Michael Reeve and Kristian Collins also found a way past Andrew McGurgan in the Panthers goal. The Panthers battled to the end of the match and were rewarded with goals from Rui Ferreira (2), Zach Knight and Anthony Pulciani.

Canberra City Prawns are still breathing down the necks of Boomerangs FS Blues as the champions registered a fifth win of the season with an 8-3 success over Boomerangs FS White. Goran Josifovski was in fine fettle, scoring four times for the Prawns, and he was joined on the score-sheet by Trent Flanigan, Dejan Santrac and Stephen Domenici, the latter moving onto eleven goals for the season. Chris Lee scored twice for Boomerangs White who were helped on their way by a Prawns own goal.

Meanwhile a four-goal haul from Regan Walsh has led Monaro Panthers Grey to only their second win of the season as they saw off Weston-Molonglo Timberwolves 7-3. Walsh was joined amongst the goals by a double from the silky Josh Calabria and another goal from the reliable Michael Sydney. Tony Aleksovski scored his ninth of the season in reply for the Timberwolves with Thomas Zeitlhofer and Vinnie Brasil also netting but Monaro was comfortable winners.

ACT Premier League Update

From Capital Football

MEN’S FUTSAL PREMIER LEAGUE: ROUND 9

Canberra City Prawns closed the gap on league leaders Boomerangs FS Club in the Men’s Futsal Premier League without even playing a game after Round 9. The Prawns were the beneficiary of a 5-0 forfeit win by the Monaro Panthers Green who were unable to field a team and, after Boomerangs FS Blue was held to a 3-3 draw by Untouchables FC, the gap at the top was reduced to a point.

The clash between Boomerangs FS Blue and third placed Untouchables FC showed just why this competition will go to the wire this season as neither side could shake free the shackles and had to be content with a share of the points following a six-goal thriller. Daniel Bennett struck his 20th goal of the season for Boomerangs and was joined on the score sheet by Jason O’Dwyer and Callum Smith.

Untouchables have enjoyed a good season to date, only losing twice in eight matches, and underlined their potential by sticking with the Boomerangs throughout the match. They were well worthy of their draw thanks to goals from Aidan Brown, youngster Patryk Bylinski and Jason Farrell. Untouchables are no only two points off the summit themselves.

In the only other match played in Round 9 the points were shared again as Monaro Panthers Grey and Boomerangs FS White fought out an entertaining 5-5 draw. Travis Dries was at the double for Boomerangs White, taking his tally for the season to ten, whilst there was a first of the season for David Dexter and goalkeeper Ashley Collins. Ross Edwards added the other goal for Boomerangs.

Monaro Panthers Grey have found some form of late and they still harbour hopes of a place in the top four and a semi-final spot as goals from Michael Sydney (2), Regan Walsh, Angus Paterson and Joshua Calabria made sure that they stuck with their higher placed opponents throughout indicating their threat as the season draws towards its climax.

RESULTS

Monaro Panthers Grey 5 (Michael Sydney (2), Regan Walsh, Angus Paterson, Joshua Calabria) Boomerangs FS White 5 (Travis Dries (2), Ashley Collins, David Dexter, Ross Edwards)

Boomerangs FS Blues 3 (Daniel Bennett, Jason O’Dwyer, Callum Smith) Untouchables FC 3 (Aidan Brown, Patryk Bylinski, Jason Farrell)

WOMEN’S FUTSAL PREMIER LEAGUE: ROUND 10

Belconnen United sprang the upset of the round in the Women’s Futsal Premier League as they stunned championship chasing Boomerangs FS El Diva 2-1 in Round 10 of the indoor competition. The Blue Devils claimed only their second win of the season in the process as they put a huge dent in El Diva’s hops of ending the season at the top of the table.

Rhianna Goldstein and Jessica McEwan were the goal heroes for Belconnen who defended superbly and denied Boomerangs a way back into the match. Nikola Orgill did score for Boomerangs, her fifteenth goal of the season, but Belconnen held on to record a memorable win and keep alive their push for a top four spot.

Later on in the evening the Blue Devils were held to a surprising 1-1 draw by bottom of the table Tuggeranong United who claimed their first point of the season. Kristy Helmers scored the all-important goal for Tuggeranong whilst Brittany Smale recorded her sixth of the season for the Blue devils who may view this as an opportunity squandered to put more pressure on Weston-Molonglo Pandas above them.

The Pandas currently sit in fourth place on the table, two points ahead of Belconnen United and Monaro Cubs after they defeated the young Panthers outfit 2-0 to jump over them in the standings. The Pandas were indebted to a brace of goals from Karen Clarke for their important victory, Clark bringing her personal tally for the Women’s Futsal Premier League competition to half a dozen for the year.

Monaro Panthers meanwhile has extended its advantage at the top of the table to six points following Boomerangs El Diva’s surprise defeat by downing Untouchables FC 3-1. Ashleigh Palombi scored twice for the Panthers to move into double figures for the year whilst leading scorer Brittany Palombi netted her seventeenth of the campaign in the win. Alice Churchill pulled one back for Untouchables FC but they were unable tom halt the unbeaten Panthers’ charge.
